Project Manager for PR & U.S. Virgin Islands (+7 years' exp.)

Overview

MFS is seeking a Project Manager to work in our innovative, highly respected, and dynamic consulting firm in the engineering and construction industry. Hiring need for San Juan, PR and U.S. Virgin Islands.

This position is not remote. Must be willing to travel within Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, and other locations.

The PM works to construct a safe and quality project, adhering to estimate budgets, improving the total operating profit margin over the original bid, and building strong customer relationships.

This position is responsible for completing/coordinating pre and post job reviews and overseeing the management of the work prior to and throughout construction. The PM tracks project costs, submits change orders, schedules jobs, generates shop drawings, as-built drawings, and submittals, schedules subcontractors, procurement, and field operations. In addition, this position will work directly on responses to RFPs for engineering and construction services.

A successful candidate will be a team player who is self-motivated and willing to jump in and assist where needed.

You may be required to work nights and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Performing the day to day duties to facilitate and manage the pre-construction and construction activities.
  • Preparing and tracking project submittals, assisting in maintaining the performance of each subcontractor, verifying compliance with the plans and specifications, and attending job site meetings and other duties necessary for the successful completion of the projects.
  • Working with project team members to assure all scheduling is on time, in meeting client needs within contract agreements and budgets.
  • Training newly hired junior Engineers.
  • Supporting the project with quality control analysis, coordinating with inspectors, and ensuring the construction work meets standards specified by designers.
  • Scope and contract preparation, obtaining various permits, preparing and reviewing project schedules, estimating and verifying change order requests, responding to RFIs and responding to subcontractor and consultants project related questions.
  • Estimating quantities and cost of materials, equipment, or labor to determine project feasibility.
  • Complying with safety procedures/policies and addressing and/or elevating non-compliance among all employees, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Managing and reviewing all foremen's reports daily to ensure all information is properly recorded before any income, cost, or inventory entry.
  • Coordination of subcontractors on site.
  • Documenting all time and material operations and reconciling with the client on a daily basis.
  • Taking site walks to communicate with Field Engineers, Foreman and Superintendents about current operations.
  • Ensuring that projects are expeditiously and profitably constructed.
  • Establishing excellent working and professional relationships with the clients and their representatives and/or field inspectors.
  • Assisting the buyout process, writing the requisition, and communicating all required information to the Project Team. Negotiating the best deal for cost, quality, and delivery.
  • Producing complete purchase orders
  • Knowledgeable of the key operational details of the subcontract and holding the subcontractors accountable to their agreement. Attending the subcontractor coordination meetings to provide updates to schedules, drawings, and specifications.
  • Searching and obtaining leads for local, state, and federal agency bid opportunities on a weekly basis
  • Leading, managing and assisting proposal development for RFP/Qs including proposals, qualifications, award/bid submittals.
  • Working with Senior Personnel to determine go/no-go RFP/Q opportunities.
  • Preparing company qualifications including key personnel resumes and project reference sheets tailored to intended audience.
  • Maintaining and assisting in lead generation via CRM/opportunity tracking system.
  • Assisting and leading company-wide proposal development on proposal submission schedule and coordinating consultant teaming matrix
  • Developing, implementing, and controlling proposal schedules, taking action as appropriate to assure deliverable milestones are met.
  • Supporting and attending Business Development and Networking Events for Project Managers and Senior Personnel.
  • Translating content from Spanish to English or vice versa.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • 7 years of Project Manager experience or more
  • Must have demonstrated exceptional leadership skills
  • Excellent teamwork, communication and people skills a must
  • Self-directed, organized and self-motivated to accomplish goals
  • Able to multitask and work in a fast-paced challenging environment
  • Solid time management and demonstrates excellent organizational skills
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite
  • Must be able to interpret blueprints/drawings
  • Working knowledge of estimating, engineering, cost tracking systems, and site surveying
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability and desire to learn and progress within the organization
  • Must be willing to travel within PR, USVI, and other locations
  • Valid driver’s license and means of transportation
  • Certificate of Good Standing

Preferences

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Spanish and English is highly desired
  • Experience with the Army Corps
