MFS Consulting Engineers & Surveyor, DPC provided structural engineering services to support R.G. Vanderweil Engineers, LLP for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PA) JFK International Airport Work orders 112, 113 & 114 - Major Utility Corridors - Contract EWR-174.115 involving in the rerouting and extending the 24” dia. and 36” dia. Chilled Water (CHW) and 16” dia. and 20” dia. Medium Temperature Hot Water (MTHW) site piping. This is part of the major redevelopment program at JFK International Airport comprising of the redevelopment of airside, terminal, and landside facilities located throughout the airport campus to accommodate the anticipated growth and passenger demand, the Central Terminal Area roadway, and upgrade and reconfiguration of its utility network.

MFS’ structural team provided the structural design of the underground manhole and vault structures to house the CHW and MTHW piping. MFS provided the structural design of two (2) CHW and two (2) MTHW vaults. All manhole and vault structures, with an overall dimension of 20’ wide by 28’ long and 18’ deep, were designed as reinforced concrete cast-in-place structures, comprised of 2-ft thick top slabs and walls and 3-ft thick foundation slabs. The underground manhole structures were designed in accordance with AASHTO for various vehicular loading such as HL-93 design tandem load, HL-93 design truck load, and design firefighting truck load. Additionally, MFS designed the miscellaneous structures such as the access ladder and manhole access hatch.

MFS provided Final Construction Documents including calculations, detailed drawings, and specifications signed and sealed by a New York Professional Engineer.
