NYCSCA Queens 3K Project

Queens, New York

Project Overview

MFS Consulting Engineers & Surveyors, DPC was contracted by Systra A&E to provide professional engineering services for conversion of a recently disused adult care facility into an early-education school as part of the NYC School Construction Authority (SCA) 3-K program. The 3-K Program provides early education to 3-year-olds prior to enrollment in a traditional pre-school program and is a focus area for the SCA’s capital improvements projects with demanding teaming and schedules.

Project Details

Proposed site improvements included conversion of an existing on-site driveway to an enclosed playground, installation of on-site ADA-accessible ramps, and drainage improvements to capture areaway drains and divert existing runoff from overland encroachment to the proposed play area.

MFS’ site/civil team prepared the site design documents for the improvements. The construction documentation included a site demolition and removal plan; erosion and sedimentation control plan; site plan including new travel ways, pavement, signage, and dimensioning of proposed site features to property lines and other site related elements; and a grading and drainage plan.

Additional permitting documents were required by this NYCDOB Alteration 1 project. MFS prepared a NYCDOB Builders Pavement Plans (BPP) for right-of-way improvements, including coordination with the NYCDOT Pedestrian Ramp Unit for the reconstruction of a pedestrian ramp fronting the project site, utilizing NYC DOT standards and specifications.
