Soil Study in Cancer Comprehensive Center

Project Overview

MFS Consulting, LLC was contracted by Puerto Rico Infrastructure Financing Authority (AFI) to provide geotechnical engineering services in support of the Soil Study at the Cancer Comprehensive Center located at San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Project Details

MFS conducted a subsurface investigation consisting of ten (10) geotechnical test borings. At site one and two, four (4) test boring were conducted to a depth of 35 feet below existing site grade. At site three, two (2) test boring were conducted to a depth of 15 feet below existing site grade. Prior to mobilization, MFS performed a utility survey since at the three (3) sites. Per recommendation of PRIFA, such survey will locate and mark all utilities on all three (3) sites for the safety of the crew performing the drilling work and to prevent any damage to such utilities.

Laboratory tests were performed to classify soils and obtain geotechnical physical characteristics for soils. Soil samples were used to determine natural water content in soil, to measure the unconfined compressive strength (using spring tester or pocket penetrometer), and to make detailed visual/manual descriptions.

During SPT borings MFS, observed the subsurface conditions and generate test boring logs to include soil classifications in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System, groundwater observations, action of equipment, and other noteworthy observations. In addition MFS will generate a geotechnical engineering report with recommendations.
