Project Overview

MFS Consulting Engineers & Surveyor, DPC (MFS) was contracted by Maser Consulting to provide professional geotechnical engineering services in support of the projects located at 1600 and 1666 Bathgate Avenue in the borough of the Bronx, New York.

Bronx, New York

Project Details

MFS performed subsurface investigations at each project site to identify potential causes for the observed settlement at the project site, provide recommendations for the monitoring of the existing structures, and provide recommendations to stabilize the existing structures and limit any future settlement on site.

MFS coordinated with our in-house drilling company (MFS Construction, LCC) to perform one (1) geotechnical test boring at each project site, to depths of 15 to 25 feet below grade. During the geotechnical investigation, the MFS inspector observed the subsurface conditions and generated test boring logs that included soil classifications in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System and the New York City Building code, groundwater observations, action of equipment, and other noteworthy observations. Upon completion of the subsurface investigation, laboratory tests were performed by an accredited testing laboratory to confirm the visual classifications and define several of the relevant material properties for use in the evaluation and design of the proposed settlement mitigation measures to be implemented on site.

The results of the field investigation and laboratory testing program and evaluation of the subsurface conditions were presented in a written Geotechnical Engineering Report. In addition, the Geotechnical Engineering Report included our analysis of the potential causes of the observed settlement based on the results of the investigations, recommendations for monitoring the existing structure to determine if settlement is ongoing, and our recommendations to mitigate the observed settlement.
