MFS Engineers & Surveyors provided professional services to the Department of Veterans Affairs in support of the Relocation of Radiology Suite at Hudson Valley Health Care System Castle Point Campus in Wappingers Falls, New York. MFS was retained by Michael Avramides Architect to support the project by providing professional geotechnical engineering, site civil engineering, structural engineering and land surveying services.
MFS’s geotechnical engineering team conducted a field subsurface investigation consisting of two geotechnical test borings. The MFS inspector observed the subsurface conditions and generated test boring logs to include soil classifications in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS), groundwater observations, action of equipment, and other noteworthy observations. At the conclusion of the field subsurface investigation, MFS coordinated to complete laboratory testing on representative soil samples. Upon receiving laboratory results, MFS prepared a geotechnical engineering report with geotechnical design and construction recommendations for the proposed electrical room addition and separate generator building and associated retaining walls.
MFS’s structural engineering team provided the structural design for the new complete central imaging/Radiology suite in Building 18D, which includes the slab-on-grade design for the new equipment in the Radiology and R/F rooms, ceiling supports for new equipment within the Radiology suite, a retaining wall and concrete pad design to enclose and support a new generator, day fuel tank, and exterior fuel tank, and an electrical room addition at the southern end of the building. The structural engineering team provided the Final Construction Document set, including foundation plans, framing plans, sections, details, and construction notes and specifications with due consideration to the Subsurface Investigation and Geotechnical Report.
Prior to the start of construction, the structural engineering team also performed a field investigation to assist in the structural assessment of the ground floor slab and first floor level framing.
