Citywide Ferry Service
- Owner: NYCEDC
- Client: McLaren Engineering Group
- Services: Geotechnical Engineering
MFS Engineers & Surveyors provided professional geotechnical engineering services in support of the NYCEDC Citywide Ferry Service Project. To create a new unified ferry service system that connects all of New York City’s five boroughs, new ferry landings and modifications to existing landings were needed. McLaren Engineering Group retained the services of MFS to provide geotechnical engineering services in support of the design of the proposed ferry landings.
MFS provided special inspection services during the subsurface investigations at seven potential ferry landing sites. The geotechnical engineer on site observed the boring operations and classified all soil and rock samples in accordance with the USCS and NYCBC. Upon completion of the field operations, MFS prepared the chain of custody forms for geotechnical laboratory testing and prepared the final boring logs and TR forms for the investigations carried out. The intent of these borings was to allow McLaren to design safe ferry landings, thereby creating an affordable and efficient way to link city residents and commuters throughout the five boroughs by water.
