  • Services: Structural Engineering

MFS Engineers & Surveyors provided professional structural engineering services to Thomas P. Carney Inc. for the New Jersey Executive State House Comprehensive Renovation and Restoration Project in Trenton, New Jersey.

This capitol building for the state of New Jersey was built in 1790 and it is the third oldest state house in continuous legislative use in the United States. In 2017, the front portion of the building including the Rotunda was closed for renovations. MFS project scope included the structural analysis of the proposed exterior facade scaffold structure designed by a scaffold manufacturer, the reinforced concrete scaffold support foundation design, and construction engineering support services.

The MFS Structural Engineering Team worked closely with the scaffold manufacturer, a firm based out of the United Kingdom, to peer review their scaffold structural analysis and design drawings to ensure it was in compliance with all applicable U.S. federal and local governing design codes. Additionally, MFS provided the reinforced concrete foundation design to support the exterior facade scaffold structure.

Lastly, MFS provided construction engineering support throughout construction to value engineer proposed contractor means and methods which included the re-design of the proposed lintels at the architectural penetrations, below-grade tunnels, and mechanical penetrations. MFS provided the installation procedural details to allow for a more cost-effective, and efficient means of installing all the lintels required throughout the project site.

MFS performed all necessary structural design calculations for use in preparing the Final Construction Document set, including construction notes, structural plans, sections, and details as necessary to adequately depict what structural work would be required.
