MFS Consulting Engineers & Surveyor, DPC (MFS) provided structural engineering services in support of the North Brunswick Township Middle School Solar Array System project located at 100 Renaissance Boulevard in North Brunswick, New Jersey.
The proposed work includes the installation of roof mounted solar arrays on the existing rooftop of North Brunswick Middle School. The District’s goals for this solar project is to maximize savings through a lower electric rate provided by a solar power purchase agreement (PPA), offset as much of the District’s electric load as possible, improve environmental sustainability, strengthen the District’s reputation within the community and state-wide, and provide the potential for Energy Storage.
MFS performed a structural analysis of the school’s rooftop framing with supporting calculations report and provided a letter report. This report included the structural analysis findings for the rooftop structural adequacy, and determined the allowable rooftop loads (dead loads, live loads, wind loads, and snow loads). In addition, the report included a rooftop residual capacity diagram in pounds per square foot (PSF) for each roof section to allow for the installation of the new solar array system, potential snow drift map diagram, and roof loading plans for material staging during construction.
