Outerbridge Crossing Pier E Obstruction

Outerbridge Crossing Pier E Obstruction
  • Owner: Port Authority of NY/NJ (PANYNJ)
  • Client: Trevcon Construction Company, Inc.
  • Services: Structural Engineering

MFS Engineers & Surveyors provided professional structural engineering services to Trevcon Construction Company, Inc. in support of the Pier E of the Outerbridge Crossing project. The construction included the relocation of an existing concrete structure, weighing approximately 750 tons and measuring 43’-0” in diameter by 6’-0” thick, which was obstructing and preventing installation of proposed installation of piles and fenders around the perimeter of Pier E of the Outerbridge Crossing.

In order to relocate the concrete structure, the outfitting of a 160’-0” by 50’-0” by 8’-0” barge with a structural frame and an attached suspended picking wire system was required. MFS’ structural engineering team provided a design for the barge support frame, consisting of two (2) steel sections spanning the length of the barge top and bottom, secured by cradles along its alignment and vertical threaded bars at the barge ends to prevent movement and ensure stabilization of the steel frame. Additionally, MFS provided a design for the wire picking system attached to the barge support frame in order to securely lift and relocate the existing concrete obstruction.
