MFS Engineers & Surveyors was obtained by H2M to provide topographic and utility survey services for DDSO located in Staten Island, NY.

Horizontal Datum for the surveys were based on New York State Plane Coordinate System (NAD83) (Long Island Zone), established by RTK GPS observations. The Vertical Datum was based on NAVD 1988 datum, establish by RTK GPS observations. All measurements were reported as U.S. Survey Feet.

MFS performed a field survey to locate physical features including the following above ground features structures, walls, curb, drives, sidewalks, pathways, ramps, stairs, handrails, fences, benches, signs, street furniture, etc. within the proposed survey area as described above. Elevations along curbing, property lines, centerlines were surveyed at 25-ft intervals. Street trees, 6 (six) inches in caliper or over, were located at the center of the tree at DBH and any tree wells were located. Each tree was labeled with tree size at DBH. The outer limits of wooded areas, hedges, planting beds were located and labeled as such. Spot elevations were determined at regular intervals sufficient to develop contours at a one-foot interval. Spot elevations were obtained at grade breaks, high/low points, top/bottom of curb and walls, crown of road, edges of paved areas/walks/etc.

MFS’s field team located surface utilities within the limit of work such as manholes, catch basins, trench drains, valve covers, utility/light poles, hydrants, chamber covers, exposed piping, etc. For storm drains and sanitary sewers MFS obtained measurements to determine inverts and pipe sizes at accessible manholes and catch basins.

Subsurface utilities such as water, gas, electric and communication were depicted based on surface features and available record mapping.
