MFS Engineers & Surveyors provided geotechnical engineering services in support of the Columbia University Manhattanville Expansion Project. The project consisted of the proposed construction of several academic, research, recreation, and civil buildings on a 17-acre footprint in West Harlem, New York. MFS provided contractors E.E. Cruz & Company, Inc. and Nicholson Construction Co. with full-time on-site inspection for the subsurface investigation conducted within the limits of the foundation for both phase I and II of the construction. The results were used to assist in the value engineering of the proposed foundation.

The work involved the oversight of over seventy-five 60 to 200 ft deep soil/rock borings. The purpose of the borings was to determine specific subsurface bedrock conditions along the proposed slurry wall and caisson foundation alignment. MFS provided the Client with detailed geotechnical boring logs which included rock core documentation and classifications.
