- Completed: December 2025
- Services: Structural Engineering
MFS Engineers & Surveyors provided structural engineering services in support of subsidence study of Pier 90 at Manhattan Cruise Terminal. The Manhattan Cruise Terminal's Pier 90, located along the Hudson River at West 50th Street, serves as a docking site for major cruise lines like Norwegian, Carnival, and Holland America. Originally constructed in the 1930s during a modernization of Manhattan’s waterfront, it has since been renovated to accommodate modern cruise ships and improve passenger facilities. In addition to cruise operations, the pier occasionally hosts large-scale events and includes customs and immigration services for arriving passengers.
The pier, which has undergone extensive inspections, engineering assessments, and rehabilitation work over the past decade, required a detailed evaluation of it substructure to determine its life expectancy.
MFS reviewed historical inspection and assessment reports, along with rehabilitation construction drawings, to assess the current condition of the pier’s substructure. The analysis focused on the pile foundation and other critical elements to determine their structural capacity.
