Re-Construction of the Basketball Court at the Park of the Americas
- Owner: New York City Parks
- Completed: April 2023
- Services: Geotechnical Engineering
MFS Engineers & Surveyors provided professional geotechnical engineering services for the City of New York Parks and Recreation (NYC Parks) Re-construction of the Basketball Court at the Park of the Americas project.
MFS coordinated with our in-house drilling agency (MFS Construction, LLC) to conduct four (4) test borings for environmental sampling and testing purposes. Each of the borings were advanced using hand excavation methods and were completed to a depth of 5 feet below existing site grade. MFS obtained samples for geotechnical laboratory testing continuously during each boring to the termination depths. In addition, environmental samples were collected at depths of 0 inches to 6 inches below grade, 6 inches to 2 feet below grade, and 2 feet to 5 feet below grade.
During the test boring operations, MFS observed the subsurface conditions and generated test boring logs to include soil classifications in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS) and any other noteworthy observations. The boring logs showed depths at which boring advancement or sampling methods changed.
Geotechnical laboratory tests were performed to classify soils and obtain geotechnical physical characteristics for soils. Environmental laboratory tests were conducted on the soil samples obtained and the results were compared to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) Part 375 Restricted Residential Soil Clean Up Objectives The results of the field investigation and laboratory testing program were presented in a written geotechnical scope summary memorandum.
