Located at the southern tip of Manhattan Island, Castle Clinton, originally a fortification, has over the years been a port of entry for immigrants, a theater, and an aquarium. Now a historic landmark, the historic building is visited by sightseers daily. MFS provided professional Land Surveying services to John G. Waite Associates in support of restoration to the building, located in Battery Park.
MFS's survey team performed a field survey to locate physical features and obtained spot elevations at intervals of 25’ generally radial to the structure. At the two entrances MFS obtained elevations along the ramps and approaches sufficient to allow JGW to confirm grades for accessible routes. MFS additionally performed a 3D Laser scan of these areas to obtain a large elevation data set. MFS additionally located surface utilities and obtained measurements of inverts and pipe sizes for pertinent storm drains and sanitary sewers from street level. MFS obtained utility records from utility company owners known to have facilities in the area.
